volcanic & geothermal
There are 15 volcanoes in Türkiye, of which some are active, and some are extinct. One famous volcanic mountain in Türkiye is Mt. Ararat, which is the most recent to erupt in 1840. Geothermal power in Türkiye has been explored as an energy source since the 1970s. Western Anatolia contains a lot of Türkiye’s active geothermal areas. Hot springs around Pamukkale and other areas are due to the geothermal activity in that part of the country. Cappadocia’s moon-like landscape is also thanks to past volcanic activity around Mt. Erciyes.
